Sync Apple Apps and Books Purchases to Microsoft Intune

Apple Business Manager uses location/content tokens to let Intune manage volume-purchased apps and books. These were commonly called VPP tokens. Intune normally synchronises a token automatically, and an administrator can also start a manual sync.

Manual sync

  1. Confirm the app licences are assigned to the intended location in Apple Business Manager.
  2. In Intune, go to Tenant administration > Connectors and tokens > Apple VPP tokens.
  3. Select the token associated with that Apple Business Manager location.
  4. Choose Sync and wait for the status to update.
  5. Open Apps > All apps and confirm the purchased app appears against the expected token.

Important token rules

  • A location token is intended for one Intune tenant at a time.
  • Tokens expire and should be renewed by downloading the current token from Apple Business Manager and updating the existing token in Intune.
  • Do not delete and recreate a token casually because app/licence assignments can be affected.
